Overhead Pouch or Pocket Sorter Video
Description:
An overhead pocket or pouch sorter is an overhead sortation system that relies on pockets, pouches, or bags to store and convey product. There are quite a few different models and varieties but, they operate similarly. A trolley or rail system is installed on the ceiling of the warehouse or distribution center, optimizing the facilities otherwise wasted overhead space. Individual pockets, pouches or bags hang from this rail system. Pockets are conveyed individually and are moved independently.
Items are picked into pouches at the workstation. This is typically one or two units per pouch. The pouch is then transported overhead for further picking, processing, and packing. Every pouch can be buffered, sorted, sequenced, and then delivered to the next workstation.
Throughput for pouch/pocket sorters typically falls somewhere in the range of 100-120 pouches per minute. Pocket sorters are particularly common in ecommerce order fulfillment and facilitate batch picking strategies.
